AUSLIVE - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

ABOUT DVDs - GENERAL

What is DVD?
DVD (sometimes known as "Digital Versatile Disc" or "Digital Video Disc") is an optical disc storage media format that can be used for data storage, including movies with high video and sound quality. DVDs resemble compact discs as their physical dimensions are the same (12 cm or occasionally 8 cm in diameter) but they are encoded in a different format and at a much higher density.

DVD Video may include one or more subtitle tracks in various languages, including those made especially for the deaf and hearing impaired. It may also contain Chapters for easy navigation (and continuation of a partially watched film) and some other special features which are unavailable in VHS.

Will DVD discs wear out, like VHS movies?
No. The picture quality of the DVD disc is consistent from the first play to the thousandth play. Plus, DVD discs will not deteriorate over time, are unaffected by magnetic fields (which can literally erase a VHS cassette) and do not require rewinding after viewing.

Just how good is the DVD picture?
Based upon pixel resolution, color resolution, color detail, black level reproduction and a virtual lack of color noise, the DVD picture is nearly 3 times better than conventional VHS.

What are region codes?
Each DVD-Video disc contains one or more region codes (sometimes called zones), denoting the area(s) of the world in which distribution and playback are intended. The commercial DVD-Video player specification dictates that a player must only play discs that contain its region code.

In theory, this allows the motion picture studios to control the various aspects of a release (including content, date and price) on a region-by-region basis. In practice, many DVD players allow playback of any disc, or can be modified to do so.

Any combination of regions can be applied to a single disc. For example, a DVD designated Region 2/4 is suitable for playback in Western Europe, Oceania and any other Region 2 or Region 4 area. A so-called "Region 0" disc (actually coded Region 1/2/3/4/5/6) is meant to be playable worldwide.

The term "Region 0" also describes DVD players that were designed or modified to incorporate Regions 1-6 simultaneously, thereby providing compatibility with virtually any disc, irrespective of region(s).

DVD CLASSIFICATION

What does the classification markings in front of the DVD cover means?
In Australia, film products are classified into G, PG, M or MA 15+. It can also be classified into R 18+ or X 18+

The look of the classification markings that you see on film products (including videos and DVDs) and advertising material for them has changed. However, the meaning of the classification markings has not changed.

ADVISORY CLASSIFICATION

The content is very mild
The content is mild
The content is moderate in impact
The content is strong
High level content
This classification applies to films that contain only sexually explicit content

To assist you even further, the classifications will almost always appear at the bottom left of packaging

In most circumstances, when you see the classification, you will also see a white space next to it that contains some brief advice phrases, called consumer advice. This information is specific to the film or computer game that has been classified and is designed to provide you with specific information about the content that will assist you in your choice. Examples of consumer advice may be mild violence, moderate sex scenes, strong violence, frequent coarse language etc.

For more information, please refer to Australia Government - Office of Film and Literature Classification

DVDs TECHNICAL DEPTH

Why can't I find the title I want?
AUSLIVE database is updated on a daily basis and is as accurate and up-to-date as the information provided to us from the manufacturer. Hundreds of new DVDs are released every month, so please check our site regularly for updates.

Will your DVDs play in my country?
Australian DVDs are usually formatted in PAL and encoded for Region 4 unless stated otherwise on our listing. You may notice that some discs have multiple zones ensuring playability in other countries, providing your DVD player and television are both PAL compatible. Please refer to each individual item's page for details on region encoding.

Will DVDs play on my computer?
Generally speaking all DVDs play back on your home computer or laptop provided you have a DVD-ROM drive which is compatible with the region encoding of the disc. Most computer monitors will display both the NTSC and PAL signals. We do however advise you check your manual for verification before you proceed with purchase of DVDs.

Why is my DVD not shrinkwrapped?
Unfortunately not all distributors shrinkwrap their product, however we guarantee that all product shipped from our warehouse centre is brand new.

Should I insure my purchased on delivery?
We STRONGLY recommend all our customers (local or overseas) insured all purchases.

By purchasing any items with AUSLIVE without including insurance on payment, that means, you have read and agreed with our DVD Store Policy and will take the responsible by yourself if the item loss / theft / damaged during the delivery progress.

Any eBay or Paypal item not received / item damaged dispute WILL NOT have any power upon the above statement if the insurance is not exercised. In other words, we will not cover for any loss or damage caused during shipping, unless the article is insured.

Does my country allow for insured items?
Unfortunately not all countries accept insured articles. If your country is listed below, you will not be able to insure your items.
- Canada

Why the DVD I purchased is not working?
Quite often the cause of this can be due to discs that have been handled incorrectly (ie. fingerprints or scratches on the read surface, discs forceably removed from their casing causing cracks).

It is unusual for a disc to be faulty in any way when manufactured. There are rare instances of faulty batches which usually result in product recalls. It is therefore imperative that you check for any of these problems before contacting us.

Occasionally discs have been found to not be compatible with certain DVD players which is why we encourage our customers to firstly check any problem discs on another brand of player.

Failing the above, please refer to AUSLIVE DVD Store Policy in regards to replacement.

I have placed an order. Can I cancel it?
If your order has not yet processed for shipment, you can cancel it. However, orders are generally processed by our system for shipment within an hour of when the order is placed.

Once our system processes the order (i.e. forwards it to our warehouse for shipment), cancelling the order is no longer possible even if the order has not yet actually shipped. This is because we ship from many different locations and we can not stop an order once it has been routed to one of these warehouse centers for fulfillment.

A cancellation fee of 10% of the total purchased will apply on those items won by buyers who do not wish to purchase the item.

Can I return the DVDs I purchased from AUSLIVE?
All the purchase are non-returnable and non-refundable unless the product is defective (in other words manufacturer faulty) or incorrectly ship.

Please refer to our DVD Store Policy for more detail.
