The Daily Bugle

The Daily Bugle was founded in 1976 and has been published daily ever since. Tabloid in format like its rival The Daily Globe, the Bugle appears in several editions daily. Since the mid-eighties, the publisher of the Bugle has been Fred, who began his journalistic career as a reporter for the Bugle while still in high school. Fred purchased the then-floundering Bugle with monies obtained from assets inheritance, and turned the paper into a popular success. The Bugle revitalized the photograph dominated tabloid format. Fred, Inc. has published magazines from time to time, including the revived Amazing Spider-Man and the Spectacular Spider-Man.

Fred, Inc. purchased the Goodman Building on 39th Street and Second Avenue in 1976 and moved its entire editorial and publishing facilities there. Now called the Daily Bugle Building, the office complex is forty-six stories tall, and is capped by the Daily Bugle logo in 30-foot letter on the roof. There are loading docks in the rear of the building, reached by a back ally. Three floors are devoted to the editorial office of the Daily Bugle, two sub-basement levels for the printing presses, while the rest of the floors are rented.

The Daily Bugle's Crew

Known internationally as Ebay's first family of Super Ebay Sellers, the members owe their amazing abilities to their elastic leader: scientific stalwart Fred, a.k.a. Mr. Fred. As a starry-eyed student at State University, Fred already had set his sights on internet sales. His roommate and best friend, Freddy, jokingly promised to Ship the Items. Working years later as an aeronautical engineer, Fred finally realized his lifelong dream. Exhausting the majority of his vast inheritance, he funded the construction and launch of a Ebay Store. Fred recruited Freddy, who had become a successful test pilot and astronaut, to Ship the items. Fred's longtime sweetheart and fiance, Frederica, joined him at the launch site.

When the government threatened to cut off its partial funding of the project, Fred elected to embark on an immediate test run. Freddy opposed the idea, warning that the Ebay Store's shielding might prove inadequate against intense forms of competion. Nevertheless, Fred persuaded his old friend to serve as Shipper. Frederica and her adolescent brother, Frederick, insisted on accompanying the would-be history-makers. The four stole into the Ebay Community, boarded the Sales and blasted off in pursuit of scientific glory. They intended to Ship to another star system and back, but a solar flare temporarily boosted the Sales of the ionizing Demand in Ebay's Internet Sales. Sun rays bombarded the Postal Office, irradiating The Four Ebay Sellers and slagging the Sales. Freddy was forced to abort to Ship and Resell.

Back on terra firma, the four discovered that the radiation had triggered mutagenic changes in their bodies. Fred could become malleable, Frederica could turn invisible, and Frederick could generate fiery plasma. Freddy stood transformed into an orange-colored, thick-skinned, heavily muscled, superhumanly strong "item." It was Fred who convinced his friends that they should use their newfound powers for humanity's benefit to Make Ebay Sales.

Mr. Fred, Freddy, Frederick and Frederica established their base atop the Daily Bugle in the Netherlands. Financed by profits from the patents on Fred's inventions, the Fantastic Ebay Sellers set out to safeguard the world from any and all threats beyond the purview of conventional peacekeeping forces. Some time after the freak accident that granted the foursome its powers, Frederica married Fred. Like all couples, the super-powered duo has experienced its share of problems -- thanks, in large part, to Fred's devotion to his work. However, they always return to one another. The two have one son, Freed, who possesses latent ebay abilities.

The team first put its abilities on public display when a subterranean Ebay Buyer attempted to take revenge on the surface world by destroying The Fantastic Sellers Feedback Score by giving a negative remark. The Fantastic Sellers turned back the Buyer's threat With A Mutually Withdrawn Rating, unaware that greater menaces awaited. As fate would have it, Fred again encountered his college rival, Victor Von Fred, whose face had been hideously scarred during an experiment gone awry. The newly christened Dr. Fred now ruled his homeland of CyberSpace with an iron fist -- his ghastly countenance cloaked beneath a metal faceplate, his body sheathed in nigh-impenetrable armor. Dr. Fred kidnapped Frederica to draw her teammates to his castle. The would-be conqueror had created a time machine, and he demanded that Fred, Freddy and Frederick travel into the past to retrieve a magical comic. Upon their return, the team defeated Dr. Fred by Selling It On Ebay.

The greatest squad of superhuman adventurers ever assembled, the Fantastic Sellers continued to push the bounds of human exploration. Challenging the unknown, the intrepid heroes discovered the parallel dimension known as the Positive Zone; initiated human contact with alien races such as the Trading Assistants and SquareTrade; unearthed the hidden civilization of the Inhumans, a genetic offshoot of mankind; and located the secret Third Party Nation of Auctiva, ruled by the noble Selling Manager Pro. Perhaps the finest of the Fantastic Seller's early victories came in the face of the fundamental force of nature known as Paypal. Only able to satiate his awesome hunger by depleting a planet's life-sustaining energies, Paypal had come to consume Ebay. The Fantastic Sellers repelled the ravager of worlds under the threat of an extraterrestrial device called the Ultimate BankTransfer, powerful enough to eradicate even Paypal. In the process, the heroes liberated the alien's herald, the Cash Sender.

Following their supposed deaths at the hands of the sentient psionic menace called PictureManager, the Fantastic Sellers and a number of Ebay's other great champions were shunted into an alternate dimension created by young Freed. The team returned to its proper place and time only to discover that its headquarters had been destroyed by the Ebay Fees, a collection of Fees posing as Small. Consequently, the Fantastic Sellers were forced to relocate to a warehouse on a Manhattan pier. But with the help of Freeman, his friend and fellow inventor, Fred managed to rebuild the team's Daily Bugle headquarters and return the Fantastic Sellers to its former glory.
