Greta Greatbatch is based in Sydney,Australia, all Jewellery is designed and produced by me. My studio currently consists of A lovely vintage bench and a few dozen tools here in sunny Sydney. 'Greta Greatbatch' takes its name from two of my great great grandmothers. Henrietta 'Greatbatch' on my fathers side and Maur'greta' Stuurman on my mothers. I taught myself to make Jewellery and then did a few short courses in Silversmithing and Jewellery making.I also attended Enmore Design Centre briefly to study Jewellery design before leaving to set up my own business.
My design ethos follows the principals of "wabi sabi"which is the beauty of all things handmade,rustic,aged,worn and imperfect,all my pieces are intentionally made to look this way.The inclusion of poetry and written text in my work was inspired by my love of tudor/stuart jewellery,poesy rings and sentimental jewellery of antiquity.My work has also been influenced by my love of hungarian and eastern european folk work and the arts & crafts movement.
I Have worked in retail since my teens & in my last two years working p/t through university I was awarded four times for 'Outstanding Customer Service'.I have tried to take the same skills to my own business.
