Back to previous page  JAVACENTRIC ART AND CRAFT The two hardworking mothers, Wina & Kerry! Hi, our names are Kerry and Wawan, and we run a small family business. We are bringing to you art and handicraft from Indonesia, but mostly from Java rather than Bali... hence our name. Most of our products are made in Central Java, and many come from relatives (Wawan is Javanese) and we work closely with Wawan's sister Wina in Java. Wina handles things her end and so this also contributes to the income of her large family significantly. We pick unusual and good quality items direct from the makers, and of course we get a good local price and pass the savings on to you! We know the makers personally, and have watched their businesses grow as we used to live there and have a very small shop for the tourists in Yogyakarta. The handicrafts we sell from Java are mostly batik on wood, (which is a new form of the 1000 year old Art of Batik), and horn handicrafts. These exquisite handicrafts are made by very skilled artisans, and each item is a unique handcrafted product taking many hours of intensive highly skilled labour. Not to mention artistic as well! Keep us bookmarked, as we'll be doing an even larger range of handicrafts in the future. We have also found some really excellent makers of wood and bone handicrafts in Bali, and have come to specialize a bit more in handcrafted hair accessories – this is an area Kerry has been interested in for a long while, having had long hair all her life! Batik 'drawing' directly on the wood with a canting (wax pen)... As for selling on eBay, we strive to give you fantastic value with handicrafts that are unusual and high quality. We sourced most of these wonderful handicrafts when we had our small tourist shop there. Business has been dead for tourism in Java ever since the bombs started happening. Bali seems to be able to recover but Java never has and a lot of little people struggling to feed their families are suffering from the crazy actions of a handful of insane fanatics. It is such a tragedy as most Indonesians are peace-loving and family orientated compassionate people, and don’t deserve this. Back to eBay! We always pack things as safely as we can (Wawan is a superb packer, as he once worked as Packing Supervisor of container loads to Europe from Java), and usually send within 24 hours of receiving payment (except weekends). We use Australia Post, and have been happy with it to date - so far only two things have been broken and only one parcel lost to the U.S. and one local one lost. Mind you, we cannot be held responsible for things lost in the mail, but the chance of this happening is very small. You are welcome to take the option to register or insure your purchases of course. We try to leave feedback on payment, as we don’t believe in only giving good feedback if the buyer gives it first. However, sometimes feedback gets left in a large batch when we get a little behind with things! We believe in what goes around, comes around and try to treat our buyers accordingly.
