So, many have asked, what does Sabahgal actually represents... well, it means that, I am a Sabah girl. I grew up in Sabah, Borneo, part of Malaysia. Its weather is very humit, hot, but surrounded by beautiful nature: from rain forest to islands to the highest mountain in South East Asia, Mount Kinabalu.
For anyone who loves the ocean, you should not give the islands a miss. The great thing about this place is that, it's still so affordable, many divers from all over the world go there to experience the corals around the region. You may take a boat ride from Kota Kinabalu and you can choose to visit any islands around the region, the close ones only take about 15 to 20 minutes, further island may even required a plan ride. Many hotels have their own boats charter their guest to any islands of their wish.
Mount Kinabalu, about 4100 metres in height. To get to the summit takes you about 1.5 days. So you start at about early morning of day 1, get through the steps in rain forrest and the higher you go, the thinner the air. So it takes a while for your body to adjust to the environment. You will stay in the resort overnight and next morning about 2 to 3am, get up and complete your last journey. By then you should get to the top just before sunrise and the view is absolutely spectacular. You need some really warm gear and you will find water proof gloves are saviour at the top! As there is mountain water free flowing from all direction sometimes, so to keep your hands really warm, go for water proof gloves!
Shopping is great! I love shopping, but of course Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia provies more ranges and styles. Shopping in Borneo has to be in either shopping centres or local markets. if you don't mind the heat or hackling prices with the locals, then head straight to the Pasar in down town. You find lots of beautiful Sarongs, Hats, handbags, jewellery in the markets. If you want a more comfortable shopping experience, then the Centre Point is just right next to you near the Pasar, lots of parking and you will find the usual McDonalds, KFCs in or around the building too!
Oh, also don't forget to visit the Orang Utans, they are really cute and smart creatures! Everyone loves them. You have to go to national parks or Zoo to see them unforunately...
So, my love to Sabah is obvious, hence my nickname in my eBay login, the Sabahgal :)
