My Name is Natasha, and together with my sister, Anita, we have created a whole range of products for the scrapbooking enthusiast. We basically got hooked on scrapbooking when my mum was invited to a Creative Memories party 5 years ago. She was shown the effects of time on non acid and lignin free albums and when she got home that day, to her horror noticed it was happening to her own albums which hadn't been looked at for many years. From that point on it has been a joint effort to free the family photos of these harmful albums. As at today this task is still not yet completed, but all our photos have been removed and those that aren't in an acid free album are sitting in a shoe box (the lessor of 2 evils).
Now most of our family photos are safe and each page is an interesting work of art from just a very simple flower on the top, to detailed and intricate designs.
To help pay for our hobby and earn a bit of pocket money while in high school, Dad suggested we make some punchies in our spare time and sell them on the internet as he suspected a lot of people didn't want the expense of purchasing several punches to make up one design that would just be used on a few pages. Thanks to a lot of initial setup assistance from Dad and all the designs from Mum's album (as well as a loan of all her punches) we have come up with 'Scrapbook Designs'.
The Safest Paper is Acid Free , Lignin Free and Buffered
Anything that goes onto your scrapbook pages should be acid free. That includes any paper, decorations, stickers, or ink you might use. Stickers & papers should also be lignin free. Your scrapbook album should have an acid free lining and it's pages need to be acid free, lignin free, & buffered. Any page protectors should be free of acid . If a product does not explicitely state that it is acid, lignin free or if you are not familiar with the product line then you should not use it!!!
The acid will react chemically to accelerate the deterioration of photos.
Lignin is a naturally occuring substance found in paper and over time it can ruin your scrapbook pages. When lignin breaks down it turns paper brown. Eg Newspaper contains a lot of lignin. So imagine the effect lignin can have on your scrapbook pages!
To neutralize acid, a buffering agent such as carbonate or magnesium bicarbonate can be added to paper giving the paper a pH of 8.5. Buffered paper is generally considered longer lasting than unbuffered paper. If an acidic letter is attached to an acid-free page, buffered paper can also prevent acid migration by neutralizing any acid transfer.
Mum was introduced to scrapbooking by Creative Memories diehards and has the creed of never to use paper other than acid and lignin free paper drilled into her thinking and as a result of her teaching (brainwashing!) we too do not touch paper unless the supplier specifies this.
Our paper and card stock are made from the following suppliers but not limited to:
Creative Memories,
Scrapbooking Down Under,
Ittakestwo,
plus other imported papers from the USA
Books and DVDs
My Dad is a keen collector of books, we began selling some of his unwanted books on our eBay store and discovered from doing this that some books are just about impossible to get hold of due to being out of print for many years. We now scour the countryside looking for special topic books to make them available to customer who cannot normally find them. Our books are generally rare and out of print items. We purchase many of our books from secondhand book stores.
About Birdkeeping
We are also keen aviculturists. You may have noticed that quite frequently we have books on birdkeeping up for grabs. I have started up a website to inform aviculturists of sale days around Australia of live bird sales days. If you need to know when the live birdsale is around anywhere in Australia, go to this website to find out more. Just go to Google and do a search on the word birdsale or bird sale and you'll find us as I am not permitted to advertise other websites here.
Praise: Lovely book. Super fast delivery/well packaged. Highly recommended. AA++
